Entire assembly election process will be conducted in accordance with COVID protocols, Uttarakhand Chief Electoral Officer said

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India]January 10 (ANI): In view of the increase in COVID-19 cases, Uttarakhand Chief Electoral Officer Soujanya said on Sunday that the entire assembly election process will proceed in accordance with to COVID-19 protocols.
“Many strict arrangements have been made for the assembly elections under the COVID protocol. 601 locations have been identified in the state, where candidates or political parties can hold their events,” Soujanya said.
It will be easy to follow COVID protocols at these locations, she added.
The Chief Electoral Officer indicated that on instructions from the Central Election Commission (CEC), places of assembly or public meeting have been identified in all districts of the state.
The party that will organize a rally here will have to apply through the facilities’ online application, she explained.
“If a party or candidate breaks the rule anywhere, strict action will be taken under the disaster law,” she added.
Meanwhile, India’s Election Commission on Saturday ordered that no physical political rallies or roadshows would be allowed until January 15 for the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa , Manipur and Uttarakhand amid an increase in COVID-19 cases.
Uttarakhand will go for a single-phase assembly ballot on February 14. The counting of the votes will take place on March 10. (ANI)
