PRG delivers the ICON scene and the best boy for the world premiere of What's New Pussycat?

UK – After an exciting summer of returning performances in London and beyond, PRG UK is back on stage in its hometown of Birmingham! What’s new Pussycat? is a new musical written by Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro (Memphis The Musical), with a stellar creative team including director Luke Sheppard and legendary choreographer Dame Arlene Phillips.

Based on Henry Fielding’s 1749 novel The Tom Jones Story, A Foundling, What’s New Pussycat? is set to the soundtrack of Sir Tom Jones ‘greatest hits, delivering a romantic musical that reimagines Fielding’s classic tale of’ 60s London.

As the only production house in the Second City, PRG has the privilege of working alongside the Birmingham Repertory Theater team once again. Over the past 50 years, it has hosted countless iconic shows, many of which PRG has supported lighting. It’s fantastic to see another colorful and heartwarming world premiere gracing the stage of this beloved institution.

Commenting on his decision to include PRG in this production, Production Manager Simon Marlow said: “PRG is one of our go-to companies because over the course of our many years of working together we have come to expect excellent service. on broadcasts of all scales. As the production manager, PRG ticks my two main boxes: they always make our designs work within budget, and they make my designers and electricians happy!

Working closely with lighting designer Howard Hudson and lighting manager at The Rep Alex Bosworth, PRG has supplied several of our proprietary products to complement the Rep’s in-house equipment, including 37 Active ICON Stage luminaires and our PRG Best Boy HP pursuits.

Commenting on his collaboration with PRG on this project, Howard Hudson said, “Having used the PRG ICON stage before and being very impressed, I knew this was a device I would love to come back to and that it would work. would sit very well alongside others. of the platform. We also looked to PRG to provide a prosecution option. With very limited space, we needed a fixture that would have the punch for a brilliant musical, but also accommodate the available space. Account manager Ian Phillips suggested and presented the Bad Boy and Best Boy 4000 HP range with the manually operated tracking adapter module. Besides seeing the brightness and the differences between the two units, Alex Bosworth and I got a better understanding of the tracking spot adapters which are a really impressive kit, very responsive and easy to use. We went with the Best Boy option mainly for their size and all three units fit in perfectly with the show.

It was a pleasure working alongside Ian and his team and it’s great to continue the long relationship PRG has had with the representative over the years.

After two quiet years in theater country, What’s New Pussycat? brings a long awaited splash of color to the stage, combining a legendary story, a legendary songbook and a legendary theater!

Special thanks to Simon Marlow, Howard Hudson, Alex Bosworth and PRG Account Manager Ian Phillips.

What’s new Pussycat? plays at the Birmingham Repertory Theater until the 14the November.
