The Bishop of Mangalore begins the synodal process at the diocesan level | Mangaluru News

MANGALURU: Mgr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore, on Sunday inaugurated the first phase of the “Synod 2021-2023”, during the Eucharistic mass which was held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary here.
Bishop kick started the synodal process in the diocese at the end of the mass, unveiling the logo of the Synod, in the presence of priests, religious and lay people gathered. The theme of the Synod represented on the logo was: “For a Synodal Church: communion, participation and mission. To discuss the synodal process in the diocese, a study session for priests, religious leaders and lay people will be held on October 21 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, organized at the Urwa Church.
In his speech, Bishop Saldanha declared: “Holy Father, Pope Francis opened a three-year synodal journey of consultation and discernment on October 9 and 10 in the Vatican, in Rome. This will culminate with an assembly in October 2023 in Rome. The process includes three phases: diocesan, continental and universal.
“The Vatican has published the preparatory document and a ‘manual (Vademecum)’ for the dioceses as part of the preparation of the world church for the 2023 assembly of the Synod of Bishops,” the bishop said.
Bishop Maxim L Noronha, Vicar General, the Rev. Paul Melwyn D’Souza, Episcopal Vicar of Religious, Rev. Joseph Martis, Director General of the Synodal Process in the diocese were present among others.
