In America v. 2.1: The Sad Demise & Eventual Extinction of the American Negro, playwright Stacey Rose presents a timely look at a dystopian future that seems ominously present. A troupe of actors tasked with re-telling the story of the American black find themselves fighting for his survival. As their story unfolds, they are forced to confront the very power systems that have dictated their existence and the cycles of oppression they themselves have fallen into. This haunting and funny Chicago premiere is a terrifying collision of past and present that questions who is in charge of preserving the truth of our common American history.
“I am delighted to collaborate with the immensely talented writer, Stacey Rose, and every artist who worked on this production, âsaid the artistic director Tyrone phillips. âAs we investigated how and why theater would survive during the pandemic, our archival value of the work of BIPOC artists took center stage. I know this moving collaboration between film and theater will remain for a very long time. with our audience. This play is a wake-up call to all of America based on the history of our founding. It inspires the next generation to not only hold our current leaders accountable, but also to become the best leaders they It is high time for our society to shed some politically and socially submissive behavior, which is why I look forward to sharing this landmark production with Chicago and across the country. “
